Ruby Lane Books is owned and run by James and Rosa Bell along with their cat Ruby.
Here’s our story:
Rosa moved to Post in 2003 solely
because she wanted to live in
the great second floor apartment
in the historic Cardwell Building
on Main Street. Soon after her
move she rented space on of the
ground floor of the building
and opened Ruby Lane Books in
December, 2003. The name “Ruby
Lane” has no significance. Rosa
just liked the way it sounded
and thought it gave an “air of
mystery” to the store.
By the end of the year, Rosa & James
had discovered each other right
here in Post, Texas! James had
been the Methodist minister in
Post in the early 1990s. He retired
here in 1999 after many years of
living & working all over the
world as a missionary and minister.
We married in June of 2004 and shortly thereafter purchased the building. Ruby Lane Books was expanded and now includes the entire ground floor. James & Rosa live upstairs with their cat, Elayne.
In 2008, a beautiful Siamese cat wandered up and we gave her a home in the book store. It seemed natural to give her the name “Ruby.”
We feel that the book store is actually just an extension of our home. Many friends, old and new, stop buy to visit and we have made many new acquaintances as travelers stop to browse. Some even buy a book!
Mostly, we feel tremendously blessed to have a wonderful life together in this great community and to spend most of our days in this historic space!
